We have been asked to stimulate, exhort, and otherwise encourage you to complete the survey of student experience on taught postgraduate courses. I gather that you will have received an individual email to your University-provided email address, providing a personalised link.
You may feel rather “surveyed out” with the course-level exercises that have, or are about to, hit you from us. But this further response would be appreciated by the College Office and the Dean, and will be used to inform University-wide policy.
Somewhere in the dim recesses of my memory I can vaguely recall coming across something which was effectively a 3d web site. It consisted of a set of rooms which you could wander around and there were display panels that were linked to the web – e.g. Facebook etc. It definitely had a very SL look and feel to it.
I know this would be easy to build in-world but it was a sort of instant application that did it all for you . I’m trying to track it down as it would serve as a good portal for course materials.
Buggered if I can find it again. Doesn’t ring any bells with anyone does it?

Some of you may have received an email from the University about Innovative Learning Week (ILW), which is happening for the first time this year, and is being held this week in locations around the campus and beyond. Many programmes are suspending “normal” teaching, but our week 6 activities (innovative as they always are!) will take place as scheduled – see your particular course site for full details.
The special e-learning seminar that’s taking place on Tuesday 21st in Second Life was deliberately timed to co-incide with ILW. Please join us if you can – three of our alumni will be talking about their work and research since completing the programme. There will be virtual champagne and sushi, in a lovely and welcoming setting. All are welcome, including friends and colleagues from beyond the programme.
You may also notice a few other goodies this week – not least the tweeting of a “manifesto for teaching online” – full details at http://www.education.ed.ac.uk/swop/manifesto.html
As part of a research project the MSc in E-learning team are working on, which is looking at students’ study spaces and geographies (the New Geographies of Learning project), we’d like to invite you to send us a postcard from where you typically study the MSc in E-Learning.
Befitting the nature of the E-Learning course however, we’d like you to submit a digital, multimodal postcard that gives us a sense of your study space. Our intention – with the encouragement of Sian and Hamish – is to collect the data from each postcard to create short videos that can be added to an E-Learning ‘class map’. You can get an idea of what we’re aiming for in this test map that includes postcards sent by different members of the Research Team.
Full details of what we’re looking for, including how to submit your postcard, can be found on here on our project website. Please help us make this map – and this project – work by posting your own study space!
Thanks for taking time to consider our request – we hope to receive your postcard in the near future.
