As you may know, Sian, Jeremy, Hamish, Christine and I run a Massive Open Online Course called “E-learning and Digital Cultures” – more info about it is at https://www.coursera.org/course/edc and http://edcmoocteam.wordpress.com. One of the things we are going to do on its second outing (starting 4 November) is hold weekly Google Hangouts-on-Air each Friday – broadcasting a discussion between the five of us, and incorporating comments, questions and feedback from MOOC participants. We held a couple of these during the last MOOC, and they worked extremely well, so we’re implementing them in each of the five weeks.

Each of us will chair one of the weeks. Chairing means keeping the conversation flowing, and bringing in comments and questions from participants. There are at least two, and probably three, locations where participant comments may appear – Twitter, the MOOC’s Google+ page, and the youtube page where the hangout is streamed.

We are seeking volunteers from the programme who would be willing to spend the period of one or more of the hangouts keeping tabs on what is going on with the participant discussion, and feeding key points and questions to the Chair. Those who did this last time found it interesting and rather exhilarating, and it’s a great way to get a feel for the scale and nature of a MOOC.

The dates and (UK) times we need this support are:

Friday 8 November, 4:45-6pm

Friday 15 November, 4:45-6pm

Friday 22 November, 4:45-6pm

Friday 29 November, 9:45-11am [edited as I got this wrong in my original post – apols]

Friday 6 December, 4:45-6pm

We need between 3-5 people for each hangout. If you are available and interested, would you send me an email (jen.ross@ed.ac.uk) to say which dates you can do? I can then draw up a schedule and give volunteers all the details about how it will work.

Your help would be much appreciated by the EDCMOOC team!
