We get quite a lot of nominations for teaching awards (and thanks to everyone who has done this) but this year we’ve surpassed ourselves and actually won one! Siân Bayne is overall winner for the Best Supervisor award.
The Edinburgh University Students Association (EUSA) invited Sian and students who nominated her to an awards ceremony on 20 April 2016. She was presented with this fantastic certificate which is displayed on her office wall, adding to the many badges she’s also received from earlier nominations. To find out more, see https://www.eusa.ed.ac.uk/representation/campaigns/teachingawards/
Well done, Siân – we’re all really proud of you.
The Student-Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) was formed around one year ago. Currently comprising six students who are at various stages of the programme, together with four members of staff, we aim to “meet” once every semester (normally via Skype) – our next meeting takes place on 24 May. The SSLC is a great forum to represent the views of the entire MSc in Digital Education student body, discuss both the programme’s strengths and areas for enhancement, and respond to any issues raised by you, the students. Our meetings so far have particularly focused on potential ideas to increase student engagement, ways we might work more with alumni and thoughts around the direction of the Hub… watch this space for further developments on all those!
In September, we will be asking for volunteers to join the Committee as a number of us will be completing the programme this year. Please do think about whether you might like to get involved and don’t hesitate to drop me an e-mail should you have any questions about what this entails. In the meantime, you may have already found our section in Moodle… if not, check it out in the general MSc in Digital Education area! There, you will see a list of all members, minutes of our recent meetings and quality assurance / external examiner reports. Most importantly, there is a forum where we’d encourage you to raise any issues with us or simply tell us what you think about the programme! The forum has been really quiet to date, so please do go ahead and post. The SSLC would love to hear from you!

The spring semester has flown by and people are already asking me how to enrol for September. I hope we can finalise the details of the courses on offer within a couple of weeks and I’ll update the Course Delivery Timetable. After that, you will receive an email from me inviting you to enrol using the Course Enrolment Form; this does not usually open until later in spring/summer. Both of these links can be found under Resources in the left-hand column.
Those who have now completed the certificate stage (i.e. have got at least 60 credits) might be interested in our new Wider Themes in Digital Education course. This course will be available from September, though you can actually start it at any time of year as it involves small projects that you can initiate yourself – though these will have to be approved and may depend on finding suitable supervision. Further details of the Wider Themes course will be available towards the end of April.
Our exam board meets on 24 June and final grades for courses that have run in Year 15/16 will be confirmed after that.
Good luck to all those working on assignments and dissertations. I hope you manage to get a rest at some point too.
