It’s Spring!  But we’re already thinking about autumn and the new academic year, 2017-18 which starts on 18 September.  Some people have been asking me about course choices and we’ll be emailing you (at your student email address) about these by the end of April.

Thanks to those who’ve volunteered to be on our Student-Staff Liaison Committee next year; we’ll be in touch about that over the summer when we know about likely vacancies. You’ll find a list of student reps and the SSLC forum at our MSc Digital Education Moodle site at https://www.moodle.is.ed.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=131

All the best for assignments, Wider Themes projects, dissertations… and all other digital education ventures. If you’re involved in some interesting projects, do remember that you can post your own news here in the Hub.

Critical pedagogy in the age of digital education

Thursday 23 March

Professor Petar Jandric, University of Applied Science, Zagreb, CroatiaPetar

Petar will introduce the tradition of critical pedagogy through three generations, starting with the work of Freire, then writers such as Giroux and McLaren, and finally considering the latest generation of contemporary authors.   He traces their changing perspectives on the use of technology in relation to issues in digital scholarship and social justice.

Petar is a visiting ERASMUS scholar with us for a couple of weeks at the University of Edinburgh.  Petar is an educator, researcher and activist. He has published three books, dozens of scholarly articles and chapters, and numerous popular articles. Petar’s background is in physics, education and information science, and his research interests are situated at the post-disciplinary intersections between technologies, pedagogies and society. See more at his website: http://petarjandric.com/

Here is a link to Petar’s talk on Collaborate Ultra.  We had some technical problems with sound and had to swap laptops, so Hamish’s photo appears while Petar is talking.  (It is a lovely photo though!)  Thanks to everyone who attended – a great discussion.

About the Hub

512px-Shimano_hub_dynamoThe login for the Hub has been fixed.  The problem arose because of a software upgrade on the server last week.  There will be more work on the server on Tuesday 28 February which may cause some further downtime to this blog and other WordPress blogs on the programme.

Did you know that you can post in this space too if you are a logged in user? If you have something you want to share with people on the programme, see the Blog posting area for the Hub link in the left-hand column.

We are planning to refresh this space – do give us some suggestions for what you would like to see in a space that works across the whole programme.
